Join us on January 13, 2024, Annual Musical Tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.: Celebrating Black Excellence. Mark Irchai, a guest conductor of our May 2023’s sold-out Double Your Fun concert, returns to our podium as a Music Director Finalist, and will lead the orchestra in carrying on the RCO tradition of honoring Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with music and words specifically chosen for this annual MLK, Jr. birthday celebration at the Reston Community Center. This concert will feature guest performers Alia Waheed, New World Order horn ensemble (N.W.O.), Beverly Cosham, students from Al Fatih Academy, perennial favorites, and RCO’s premiere of the graceful Overture to L’Amant Anonime by Joseph Bologne, the elegant Novelletten for strings by Samuel Coleridge-Taylor, and the evocative Overture to Treemonisha by Scott Joplin.
Arrive early (3:30PM) and enjoy a pre-concert performance of jazz standards by Dr. Gilbert Pryor, Jr. (trumpet) and Mark Irchai (piano).
