About the Orchestra

In 1988 Joellyn Kinzer invited a small group of musician friends to her home with the lure of cookies and an irresistible proposition—to form an orchestra.

Fast forward to today, the Reston Community Orchestra is the musical home of over 80 talented instrumentalists from Fairfax county and beyond.

Our mission is simple—to share quality music with our community. Under the leadership of Music Director and Maestro Dietrich Paredes, RCO offers five free/affordable concerts per season covering a wide range of repertoire from well-known classics to the works of new and lesser-known composers.

The Reston Community Orchestra (RCO) is an all-volunteer symphony orchestra devoted to music, the community, and mentoring young musicians. The performance repertoire covers the entire spectrum of orchestral music, including baroque, classical, romantic, and contemporary compositions.

RCO endeavors to:
1. Be a steady musical presence in the community by regularly performing affordable public concerts
2. Provide residents of the greater Reston community with a stable avenue for musical expression
3. Foster a sustained appreciation of classical music in the adults and youth of the community
4. Delight audiences with performances of well-known composers’ works, as well as provide newer composers an opportunity to hear their works performed
5. Be a magnet attracting people to Reston’s rich cultural and musical life
