Music has the power to illuminate—to reveal something new in a familiar story, to give voice to an idea, to bring people together, and sometimes simply to fill a room with light.
The Reston Community Orchestra’s 2026–2027 season, Luminosity, celebrates music that shines in many different ways.
We begin by marking America’s 250th anniversary through the voices of American composers, from the expansive sound of Copland to the exuberance of Sousa. Our annual tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. brings music and the spoken word together in an evening of reflection, honoring a vision that continues to illuminate the path toward justice and community.
In winter, the spotlight turns to the musicians themselves as Winter Delights brings RCO players and guests together in intimate chamber ensembles. Focus on Youth looks forward, welcoming young musicians to the stage alongside RCO for Grieg’s Piano Concerto and Tchaikovsky’s sweeping Fifth Symphony.
And we close the season in a blaze of rhythm and orchestral color with An Evening of Dance, from Brahms and Márquez to Ravel’s hypnotic Boléro and the dazzling transformation of Stravinsky’s Firebird.
Across five concerts, Luminosity explores what music can illuminate: our history, our ideals, one another, the promise of a new generation, and the sheer joy of sound.
Join us and experience a season that shines.
